Strengthing Our Local Communities
Free Laundry For Those In Need
At The Turo Foundation, we believe everyone deserves access to life's essentials, which is why initiated a free laundry service once a month for families in need, here in Carlisle. We know that something as simple as clean clothes can significantly impact how individuals feel about themselves and their situation. By relieving this small burden, we empower families to focus on building a brighter future. We’re committed to supporting communities both near and far, ensuring that together we can create lasting change and uplift those who need it most.

Our Shippensburg Laundry Project
In 2023 our dear friend and Shippensburg community activist, Jerome Kater, reached out to us to learn more about our Carlisle laundry project. We invited him to meet with us at our next laundry event in Carlisle so that he could see, firsthand, what we do, how we do it and the impact on the community. He came away enthused and passionate for the project. With our guidance, support and seed money, the Shippensburg laundry project began in July 2023. Every month since then a free laundry night is offered to the community at the Wash N Whirl laundromat every 3rd Wednesday evening.
What started out as a vision for The Turo Foundation and Jerome has turned into a community snowball!!! The Shippensburg University Food Service department provides lunches for 65 people and bottled water, at no charge!!! Volunteers from the University, Scout troops, Walmart employees and those engaged in community service projects regularly turn out to assist families in their laundry efforts. This collaboration is at the heart of what the Foundation hopes to achieve as we leverage our support, both physically and financially, to those seeking ways to help our fellow members in their communities.
Our Shippensburg Crew

Congratulations to the Shippensburg team. We are proud of you and are thankful that our involvement allowed you to bring about this important resource.
